Susan Aglialoro
Susan Aglialoro grew up in West Hempstead on Long Island, New York and is a graduate of West Hempstead High School. She has 34 year’s experience in public-school education. She started her career in the New York City public school system. After having children, she decided to stay home until her children started elementary school. Her family moved to Arizona in 1996 and she became the Speech-Language Pathologist at Las Sendas Elementary School.
She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Long Island University-CW Post campus in Speech-Language-Pathology.
Susan’s teaching philosophy is to focus on communication support that will help to provide strategies and skills for students to become independent and to know how to handle situations that arise at school or out in the community. She provides opportunities for students to be themselves but also learn how to fit in where they might want to belong.
Susan believes in a whole language approach that helps students work through sensory sensitivities and to think not only about themselves but of others and their perspective about a given situation. Some of her favorite ways to teach these strategies and skills include: teaching the size of a problem, reading non-verbal cues, facial expression activities, playing games, giving opinions and sharing ideas, and establishing and maintaining relationships.
Some of her favorite materials and activities to use are Zones of Regulation, Expanding Expression Tool, Visualizing and Verbalizing activities, social stories, role play, conversation skills, and games that focus on developing social skills and language development.
Outside of school, she enjoys going to the beach, taking walks, drinking hot and iced teas, staycations, spending time with family and friends, and going on date nights with her husband. She has admitted to having a slight obsession with organizing and reorganizing closets, drawers, and cabinets in her home. She and her husband Jeff have two grown children and they have been married for almost 39 years.
